GOVERNOR’S VETO OF SB 815 HARMS
PERMANENTLY DISABLED WORKERS

SACRAMENTO, CA – Attorneys representing California’s injured workers today criticized Governor Schwarzenegger for vetoing SB 815 (Perata), which would have restored permanent disability compensation to injured workers. Multiple independent reports, including a July study by the State of California’s Commission on Health & Safety & Workers’ Compensation, have found that the Schwarzenegger Administration’s workers compensation permanent disability schedule reduces permanent disability compensation by more than 50%.

What SB 815 would mean to workers permanently disabled by on the job injuries
Take a permanently disabled worker like Robert Nares of San Diego. Robert lost his leg in a construction accident. Before Gov. Schwarzenegger’s cuts, Robert would have received $112,585 in weekly installments. Once that amount ran out, Robert would have received $65 a week as long as he was alive.

California -- CAAA, Perata, Amputees Plead for Passage of SB 815 California Senate President Don Perata, appearing at a press conference with two amputees, said on Friday he would beg Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign a bill that would double permanent disability awards over the next three years.
